The great El Derbi Madrileño! City derby in Madrid, between two of the world’s best teams! Unnecessary to tell, I was really looking forward to this massive match! Atletico playing at their brand-new Wanda Metropolitano in the eastern parts of Madrid. The stadium is easily accessible by the tube.
It was a fantastic atmosphere prior to the start. These two teams really dislike each other and you may actually use the word hate. It was hot tempered and the crowd were quite abusive. After all it was derby day, and actually nothing else than you should expect! The tifo before the match was mighty with everybody waving flags and singing. It was all set for a great fight
On the pitch both sides were super aggressive and attacking minded. It turned out to be a great match. It was not decided until ten minutes from time when Real were 3-1 up and Thomas was sent off for Atletico. In total four goals, ten yellow cards, one red, one penalty and some decisive VAR decisions. It was all action packed. In the end Real won it, and to be honest they were the better side overall.
The Atletico Supporters really impressed me and the stadium is a beauty. You will certainly not regret a trip to the Wanda Metropolitano especially not for the El Derbi Madrileño!
