Stadium: Estadio Nueva Condomina – Att: 4.854
Match: Copa del Rey (Spanish Cup) 17. December 2019: Real Murcia – Racing Santander 1-0 (1-0) Goals: Bravo (7)
Murcia is the seventh-largest city in Spain, something that is really reflected in the main football stadium. Estadio Nueva Condomina holds a capacity of more than 30.000. Unfortunately, the demand for this kind of stadium is far away at the moment. The major club Real Murcia has been struggling for many years now and when I visited the city, the club were down at the third tier along with fellow citizens UCAM Murcia.
The Kings Cup is very popular in Spain and always a welcomed break from the normal league football. When second-tier club Racing Santander visited the city, it was also an opportunity for Real Murcia to get out of the valleys of the shadows, at least for a short moment.
Almost 5000 people showed up for the match, which is a good number for Real Murcia nowadays. And the crowd got something to cheer for early on when Real Murcia took the lead after only seven minutes. A nice long-range shot from Bravo found the low corner of the net. For the rest of the match it was all about defending and trying to add a second goal on the counter-attack for the hosts. Both teams had their moments in the match, but in the end, it was a deserved victory for Real Murcia. The atmosphere was great throughout the match at the Estadio Nueva Condomina. Two different supporter-groups kept it going and they could all celebrate in the end.
